PRE-OP INSTRUCTIONS
AN EMPTY STOMACH BEFORE SURGERY
For your protection, please do not eat or drink beginning 12:01 AM on the day of your scheduled operation. This includes water, breath mints, and chewing gum. This precaution minimizes adverse effects experienced from anesthesia (e.g. vomiting).
MEDICATIONS
If you are advised to take regularly scheduled medications such as blood pressure or cardiac medication, you should take it with only a sip of water the morning of the operation. Do not take Aspirin or Ibuprofen products 10 days prior to surgery, since they interfere with the clotting of the blood. This includes any non-steroidal and anti-inflammatory drugs. (Tylenol, however, is acceptable.)
LABORATORY and BLOOD TESTS
All pre-operative tests such as blood tests and EKG must be completed prior to your operation. The reports should be faxed to Dr. Li's office at least 2 weeks before your operation. If you have an abnormal EKG, a stress test or cardiology evaluation may be required.
ARRANGE FOR YOUR RIDE
Since you will be sedated for your operation, you will not be able to drive yourself after the procedure. Therefore, please be sure to make arrangements to have an adult drive you home after the procedure. (For your safety, taxi and shuttle transportation is not acceptable.)
