POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS
It is normal to experience swelling and pain following surgery. In general, swelling usually peaks 48 hours post-surgery and should begin to diminish by the fourth postoperative day. The most significant discomfort may occur for a few hours after the sensation returns to your mouth. It may gradually increase again for 2-3 days, and then begin to diminish over the next few days.
PAIN
The most discomfort that you may experience may occur for a few hours after the sensation returns to your mouth. It may gradually increase again for 2-3 days, and then begin to diminish over the next few days. Please take your pain medication as instructed. Contact your doctor if the pain is poorly controlled by the medication.
SWELLING
It is normal to experience swelling following surgery. In general, swelling usually peaks 48 hours post-surgery and should begin to diminish by the fourth postoperative day. It is important to apply cold compress with slight pressure over the operative area for the first 2-3 days.
BLEEDING
It is normal to experience minor bleeding from the operative sites. However, if perfuse bleeding occurs, please contact Dr. Li immediately or dial 911.
DIET
A liquid diet (water or apple juice) is recommended the day of the surgery. Beginning 24 hours after surgery, rinse mouth with drinking water after each meal for 7 days. A soft diet is recommended for 10 days.
SLEEPING POSITION
Head elevation (with two pillows) while sleeping is recommended for 3 days.
SINUS PROTECTION
Nose blowing is forbidden for 2-3 weeks after a sinus lift procedure.
CONTACT THE DOCTOR
Please contact Dr. Li if there is excessive bleeding that cannot be controlled, significant pain poorly controlled by the pain medications, excessive swelling that is spreading or continuing to enlarge after 3 days and allergic reaction to medication such generalized rash or excessive itching.

If loses or has lost consciousness.
